Lumenera Skynyx 2-0Over the last 5 years I have owned several different planetary imaging camera's. The first was an Meade LPI; next came the ToUcam 840K, then the DMK21AF04 (I was the first person in Australia to own one of these) and now I own the Skynyx. The Skynyx is a 640x480 camera with no compression. It can download frames at 60fps with no compression. More if you use ROI. From a practical point of view you need a much larger telescope than a C14 to even come close to achieving these sort of frame rates unless you intend to under expose the histogram. Under exposure of the histogram will reduce the look of your image and lead to some grey scale issues. The camera also comes with either 8 bit or 12 bit function. 12 bit delivers slower frame rates but well worth it given the quality of the data. The pixels being 7.4 microns in size delivers a greater charge from the increased well depth. My planetary images from the last year have all been taken with the Skynyx. I am very happy with this camera, but I am always looking for the next one to take its place. |
