Peltier cooled C14 on CGE Mount

For planetary imaging I use a Celestron 14 inch Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope (SCT) which I fitted with TEC peltier coolers. The diameter and focal length affords great image scale and light to image our nearest neighbours. This scope was an upgrade from a Celestron 9.25 inch SCT.

The optical telescope assembly (OTA) itself is not for the faint of heart. Not only is it heavy, but a little ackward. To install it on the saddle plate of the CGE you have to lift the OTA over your shoulders and slide it onto the saddle plate. If you are not a strong person, then this scope needs to be in a permanent setup. Lifting it off and on frequently could lead to an accident if you don't have the strength.

Also worth considering is the installation of peltier coolers. Please click here for a step by step tutorial on how I did this. The installation effectively reduces the cool down time by many hours. The scope is also fitted with a Moonlite focuser, which gives me precision in focusing.

The CGE mount is very good, even at very high magnifications the mount tracks well. The construction is rugged and the mount can take a bit of knocking around.
